The ministry of education informed the university administration about the reappointment of Yogesh Singh as the VC through a letter on July 2, 2026, the notice said.

The notice further stated that Maurice Gwyer, a British lawyer, judge, and academic administrator, has served as vice-chancellor of DU for nearly 12 years, from 1938 to 1950.

Yogesh Singh has also held administrative positions at various educational institutions such as the VC of Delhi Technological University, director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, and VC of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat.

He was elected as the DU’s 23rd VC in 2021, with his first five-year term ending on October 7, 2026.

In December 2025, Singh was given additional charge as AICTE chairman by the Ministry of Education (MoE). The ministry said the additional charge will continue until a regular All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) chairman is appointed or until further orders.

Singh became a professor of computer engineering at the age of 35 in the University School of Information and Communication Technology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), Delhi.
