38.6% of ragging cases reported at medical colleges; West Bengal, UP, BHU with most complaints
51 students died due to ragging between 2022 and 2024 and 45.1% of ragging-related deaths occurred in medical colleges, as per a SAVE report.

NEW DELHI : 38.6 per cent of ragging cases were reported at medical colleges in India while Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is among the institutions reporting the maximum number of complaints, revealed a report. 1,946 colleges across the country registered a total of 3,156 complaints on the National Anti-Ragging Helpline.
As per the "State of Ragging in India 2022-24" report, published by the Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE), 51 students died due to ragging between 2022 and 2024 with 45.1% of ragging-related deaths in medical colleges.
Of the total ragging complaints coming from the medical colleges , 35.4% are serious, the report found.
