AIIMS Gorakhpur to admit MBBS students from 2020, says UP CM Adityanath

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 22: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Gorakhpur is likely to become fully operational by 2020, with admission to MBBS students. However, Out Patient Department (OPD) section is likely to become functional by January or February 2019.

We are making efforts to start the OPD section in AIIMS, Gorakhpur by January or February 2019. We are also making efforts to start AIIMS MBBS classes by 2020.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone of AIIMS, Gorakhpur in 2016. It was supposed to be build at an estimate cost of Rs. 1,011 crore. It is aimed in providing affordable health care to at least 14 districts in the state. This AIIMS institute is spread over an area of 112 acre and was expected to completed in 45 months.
E arlier, in April Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his dissatisfaction over the delay of this project. When asked about the reason of delay in the construction of AIIMS, Gorakhpur, the UP government officials explained that the construction has not started and the state government required three months to demolish some buildings to acquire land.
New AIIMS Institutes updates
Earlier, in the year 2018, the central government started two new AIIMS institutes located at Guntur (Manglapuri) and Nagpur, with 50 AIIMS MBBS admissions in each. However, as the infrastructure of new AIIMS was not completed on-time, the institution started the first batch of 50 medical students in the premises of Nagpur's Government Medical College and Hospital for AIIMS, Nagpur and Government Sidhartha Medical College, Vijaywada for AIIMS, Guntur.
