AIIMS MBBS 2018 exam commences

NEW DELHI, May 25 : The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi is conducting the annual AIIMS MBBS entrance exam on May 26 and May 27, 2018, as a Computer Based Test (CBT) in four shifts. The exam is being held across approximately 155 exam centres in the country.

Candidates will be required to report to their designated exam centre in accordance with the shift allotted to them. Two shifts will be scheduled for each day with the morning shift being held from 9.00 AM to 12.30 PM and the evening session to be conducted from 3.00 PM till 6.30 PM. With AIIMS being arguably the most sought after medical educational institute in the country, experts believe the difficulty level of the exam will continue to remain high when compared to the other two medical entrance exams, NEET and JIPMER.

A notification was also released by AIIMS New Delhi on May 25, 2018, to confirm that the exam would be held on both days as scheduled in all centres across the country.

What’s new in AIIMS MBBS 2018?

This will be the first time that the exam will be conducted over two days across four shifts. With the opening of AIIMS Guntur and AIIMS Nagpur, 100 more MBBS seats have been added to the available pool. The exam will now be conducted for a total of 807 seats across nine institutions. AIIMS New Delhi will offer 107 seats (inclusive of 7 seats reserved for foreign nationals) while the other AIIMS institutions located in Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh will each offer 100 seats. The two new AIIMS in Guntur and Nagpur will offer 50 seats each for this year.

Last year, 3,64,242 candidates registered for the exam with 2,84,737 candidates eventually appearing. In this, there were a total of 1,33,933 male candidates, 1,50,973 female candidates and 11 transgenders.However, only 4,905 candidates could qualify the exam and became eligible for counselling, reflecting the immense difficulty level. The number of candidates appearing for the exam this year is expected to increase, going both by previous trends as well as the fact that the number of available seats has increased.

AIIMS MBBS 2018: Exam Schedule

Entry to the test centres will open two hours prior to the commencement of the examination and will close 15 minutes prior to the start of the test. It is advisable to report at least an hour in advance to avoid the last minute rush and to visit the centre a day prior to the examination to ensure there is no confusion or delay in locating the same on the exam day.

Exam Pattern

The question paper will contain 200 objective questions. One mark will be awarded for each right answer and there will be negative marking of 1/3 marks for every incorrect response. The questions will be asked from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Knowledge and Aptitude & Logical Reasoning sections. Candidates will be given three hours and thirty minutes to complete the examination. The general standard of the questions asked in the exam will be similar to that of Classes 11 and 12. The medium of the question paper will be either English or Hindi as per the choice of the candidates.

Declaration of AIIMS MBBS result

The result will be declared on June 18, 2018, in online mode only. The individual percentile of the candidates will be released in the form of a merit list. Only those candidates who will score the minimum cutoff marks and equivalent cutoff percentile will be considered for the further admission process. Qualified candidates equivalent to four times the total number of seats will be included in the first merit list and the percentile score obtained by the last candidate in each category will be treated as the merit percentile.
