Anna University, Bajaj auto foundation to set up Rs 15 Cr engineering skills training centre

Chennai: Anna University and Bajaj Auto Foundation, the CSR arm of Bajaj Auto Limited signed an agreement for the establishment of the Bajaj Engineering Skills Training Centre at the College of Engineering in Guindy, here. The Rs 15 crore initiative marked a significant milestone in strengthening industry- academia collaboration and preparing engineering graduates of Tamil Nadu for the rapidlyevolving manufacturing sector, a release from Anna University here on Tuesday said.

The agreement was inked on behalf of Anna University by Prof V Kumaresan, Registrar, in the presence of officials from Bajaj Auto, including Ramesh V (Head, Skilling), Vinita Shekhawat (Manager, Bajaj Auto Foundation), professors and officials of the premier technical varsity. The BEST Centre would house state-of-the-art laboratories in Advanced Manufacturing – Robotics and Automation and Advanced Manufacturing – Industry 4.0 & IIoT.

The Centre would provide students with hands-on training in emerging technologies including Mechatronics, Motion Control and Sensor Technology, Robotics and Automation, Smart Manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence. The curriculum is designed by expert engineers and senior leaders of Bajaj Auto to train students in contemporary and evolving technologies.

The Centre is envisioned as a shared resource for students from Anna University's departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated institutions, enabling wider access to the facility and thereby enhancing employability across the State's engineering education ecosystem.

V Arun Roy, Higher Education Secretary to the government of Tamil Nadu and Chairman of the Convener Committee of Anna University, accentuated the importance of robust industry engagement in higher education through curriculum integration, experiential learning, and outcome-based skill development. The establishment of the skill centre reflected this long-term vision by bringing industry-grade infrastructure, hands-on training, and advanced manufacturing technologies into the academic environment.
