AP Govt asks state varsities to establish placement cells; compete with private universities

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 29: In order to improve the placement scenario in government universities in Andhra Pradesh, the state government has asked the public universities to compete with the private varsities in ensuring campus placement for students.

AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao during a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors (V-Cs) of the state universities urged them to strive to compete with the newly established private universities.

Since the formation of the new state, many of the promoters of private universities came forward to establish a university in Andhra Pradesh. After the state government introduced Andhra Pradesh Private University (Establishment and Regulation) Bill as many as 12 private universities have signed MoUs with the state government to set up campuses in the state. Some universities have already established their campuses like SRM at Amravati, Great Lakes University at Sri City, Centurion University at Gidijala.

Reportedly, Srinivasa Rao during his meeting informed the VCs about various higher education schemes planned by the government. He deliberated that every student wants a job after completion of their program. The Minister informed that private universities and colleges have a very clear-cut focus on placements and work towards ensuring that students are hired through campus drive, by introducing placement cells.

The Minister urged the state universities to establish an active placement cell in their campuses and appoint a placement officer so that they do not lag behind the private universities.

Srinivasa Rao said that the syllabus needs to be upgraded frequently as per the industry need. The state government is roping in industrialists in creating new curriculum according to the needs of industry.
