AP govt asks universities to make all services available online

NEW DELHI: Services in the universities in Andhra Pradesh will soon be just a click away.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has directed all the universities to make all the services available online.

According to Press Trust of India, the universities are required to complete end-to-end computerisation of all systems and services. The move intends to increase the efficiency level and accessibility.

In a bid to remove all paper-work and facilitate seamless integration, e-offices will be set up for “seamless integration of services” PTI further reported. E-offices are digital workplace solutions developed under the National E-governance plan.

A higher education department told PTI : “Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken a critical view of this and directed that the institutes of higher learning rev up their efforts in this direction,”

Digitization of records

The universities will have to convert all their data into digital format. The report further stated that the Andhra Pradesh Centre for Financial Services and Systems (APCFSS) will assist the state universities for the computerization of the records.

The decision came after the deliberation between the Higher Education Department and the Finance Department.

“Simultaneously, the universities will go online and students can access the services, right from the admission process, in a hassle-free manner. All this is long overdue,” the official further informed.

Apparently, instructions have given to the universities to complete the digitization process in a month so that the new academic year begins with all digital services in place.

Specific instructions have been issued afresh to complete the whole process in a month so that by the beginning of the next academic year the universities will have truly entered the digital era,” the official added.

‘Focus on research’

The Department of Higher Education of the state has also issued an advisory to the universities to focus more on the research.

The official told PTI“This is one area where universities in the state are clearly found to be lacking. There are several schemes offered by Central institutions for funding research activity but the state universities have virtually ignored them,”

The universities have also been asked to pursue collaborative research and build a network with other universities based on the “strength in particular fields”.

The Vice-Chancellors and head of departments have been brought together to share ideas for research activity, the PTI reported.
