NEW DELHI, AUGUST 30 : Uttar Pradesh government notified that it will present appointment letters to 41,556 assistant teachers this Teacher’s Day on September 5. This comes out long after knowing that the state faces a massive shortfall of teachers.
Chief Secretary, Anoop Chandra Pandey, the person in-charge of supervising the appointment process, has directed officials to ensure that all formalities are done properly. This includes verification of certificates submitted by the selected candidates.
He also told the primary education department officials that education was on the top of the agenda for the state government at present and to ensure that the vacancies get filled at the earliest. They were also asked to ensure that the children are regular to school and vacancies get filled at the earliest.
He also asked them to make sure that the students are regular to school and provided free school uniform, books and bags on time.
The list of the selected teachers for the post of assistant teacher will be released on Thursday.
Last year in March, an RTI revealed a total of 1.6 lakh teaching posts lying vacant in UP’s state-run schools. The state government admitted to this shortfall of teachers while seeking financial aid from the Centre under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan on April 22, 2016. The report submitted to the human resource development (HRD) ministry also revealed that until April 2016, as many as 1,74,726 teaching positions were vacant in schools of up to Class 8 alone.
