Arunachal Pradesh to accord heritage status to schools establish before Independence

AP CM Pema Khandu made the announcement during the platinum jubilee celebration of Government Secondary School, Balek, in East Siang.
NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced that all government schools established before the Independence in the state will get the status of ‘heritage schools’. A museum will also be set up on the school premises.
The CM added that these schools will be accorded special attention for maintaining and developing infrastructure. Khandu made the comments during the platinum jubilee celebration of Government Secondary School, Balek, in East Siang district yesterday. The school was established in 1946.
He also felicitated 10 alumni of the school. “The school has been preparing leaders for the past 77 years. With its glorious past, it is ready for new beginnings,” he said.

He added that before independence there were only three to four schools but today 3,000 government schools are functioning across the State. “The state government has closed around 400 government schools with zero attendance and the process is still on,” he added.
Khundu said there is no need for new schools in the state. The focus is now to impart quality education for which the government is extending all support, he added. The chief minister has also directed the education department for mapping all government-run schools for reviewing them regularly.

The CM also stressed on quality education at the pre-primary level. He said students at pre-primary classes have to be taken utmost care as its the foundational stage of their educational career.
He also urged every member of the society to support the school administration and school management committees especially of government schools to be pro-active and ensure discipline.
