Assam Bongaigaon Medical College gets NMC nod, to offer 100 MBBS seats

Bongaigaon Medical College will be Assam's 15th medical college after the NMC issued its Letter of Permission on August 31.

Increasing the annual intake of MBBS students by 100, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted permission for the establishment of Bongaigaon Medical College in Assam. NMC's Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) on August 31, following a decision of the Second Appeal Committee.

Bongaigaon Medical College, Bongaigaon will be established as a new medical college with 100 MBBS seats. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development in a post on X, describing the institution as Assam's 15th medical college.

"Here's the official Letter of Permission for the establishment of Assam's 15th Medical College in Bongaigaon with an intake of 100 students," Sarma wrote on X. He congratulated those involved in the process and described the development as "another major step towards a Swasthya Assam."

The NMC document said the permission was issued in compliance with the decision of the Second Appeal Committee. It referred to the college's online application, a letter of disapproval issued on August 17, and a first appeal order dated July 23.

The college had sought approval for an annual intake of 100 MBBS students for academic year 2026. The development will add 100 MBBS seats to Assam's medical education capacity and marks the establishment of a new medical college in Bongaigaon.
