Assam CM praises IIT Guwahati for its contribution to state during COVID-19
Himanta Biswa Sarma attended IITG foundation day today. The IITG director said that they are considering college reopening for students.
NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the contributions of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sarma was invited as the chief guest at the foundation day of IIT Guwahati today. He highlighted the role, support and leadership of IIT Guwahati to help state government officials contain COVID-19, a statement from IIT Guwahati said.
While addressing the event, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam CM said: “The huge support and leadership role that IIT Guwahati has played to help our officials to contain this disease are utmost important and I acknowledge and thank the Director, Professor T G Sitharam ji for the huge contributions under his leadership.”
Sarma praised the contributions of the institute such as the disinfectant drones, low-cost UVC LED based disinfection system, Data-Driven State-wise assessment of the COVID-19 done by IIT Guwahati, according to the statement.
The Assam CM further mentioned that IIT Guwahati provided various instruments to the National Health Mission (NHM) officials in Assam to carry out testing for COVID-19 from the beginning of the pandemic. The Institute manufactured and commercialized all the COVID-19 related kits in Assam along with an industry partner, Sarma said.
T G Sitharam, director of IIT Guwahati said, “... The Institute is working towards taking up more virtual projects, a new Virtual Center is set up for Water Conservation with Australia and our ultimate aim is to be able to supply water in every village of Northeast region. We commit ourselves to strive better and create opportunities for the region.”
