Bihar Board refutes fake Class 9 Social Science paper, says viral ‘lehenga’ question was AI-generated

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has refuted a fake and misleading image circulating on social media in connection with Class 9 Social Science half-yearly examination 2026. The board said the viral image contains an incorrect question which was not present in the original question paper used in the examination.

The Class 9 Social Science half-yearly examination was conducted on September 22. Soon after the circulation of the image on social media, questions were raised about the authenticity of the paper and the nature of question number 37.

In a clarification posted on X, the board attached two images, one of a fake question paper and one of the original. The board specifically stated that the question shown at the same serial number in the viral image was fake and AI-generated.

BSEB's post (originally in Hindi) reads, "The Bihar School Examination Committee hereby refutes this fake, misleading, and incorrect news. The question asked in serial number 37 is displayed in the original mark sheet. The question marked at serial number 37 in the fake mark sheet is AI-generated, whose purpose is to create confusion in the conduct of the examination and to tarnish the image of the committee."

Original vs fake question

According to the original question paper shared by the committee, question number 37 (in both Hindi and English) asks: “How many main factors of production are there?” Students were given four options- two, three, four and five.

However, the fake image circulating online replaces this with a bizarre question that asks, “How is a lehenga lifted from?” The options shown in the altered image include “Phone”, “Remote”, “JCB” and “None of these”.

The clarification comes amid the increasing circulation of digitally altered and AI-generated content on social media. Examination-related information, particularly images purportedly showing question papers, has the potential to quickly gain traction.
