NEW DELHI : Ministry of Education has cancelled the CBSE 10th exam 2021 due to a surge in COVID-19 cases. CBSE board exam 2021 for Class 12 have been postponed. Today, in a meeting held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ and CBSE officials, decided to postpone and cancel Class 12 and 10 exams respectively keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers. The notice from MHRD says, “The situation will be reviewed on June 1, 2021, by the Board, and details will be shared accordingly. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations.”
As CBSE board Class 10 exams have been cancelled, the results of Class 10 will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion which is to be developed by the Board. If any candidate is not satisfied with the marks awarded to him/ her, they will have an option to appear for the examination. These exams may be held after the situation normalizes.
Know previous exam dates
Earlier, the Class 10 CBSE exams were scheduled between May 4 and June 7, 2021, while CBSE Class 12 exam 2021 were to be held from May 4 to June 14, 2021. Now, these exams for Class 12 have been postponed due to an alarming spike in the COVID-19 cases.

The Prime Minister reiterated, “The well being of the students has to be the top priority for the Government. He also stated that the Centre would keep in mind the best interests of the students and ensure that their health is taken care of at the same time their academic interests are not harmed.”

Other states who postponed the exams
Recently, Maharashtra and MP board postponed their Class 10 and 12 board exams. Now, these exams will be held in June 2021 for MP state. Chhattisgarh board postponed Class 10 exams and the Tamil Nadu board rescheduled on paper of HSC.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that CBSE board exam centres may become hotspots for COVID-19 and urged the Centre to cancel CBSE board exams. Some more chief ministers have requested the Centre to postpone or cancel the exams.
COVID-19 cases in India
As of April 14, 2021, a total of 1,01,006 new cases were reported across the country, which includes 42,711 from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh states only. A total of 13,65,704 are active cases in the country.
