NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 10 social science paper today, March 7. Students who appeared for the Class 10 Social Science exam described the paper as simple and balanced. The CBSE Class 10 Social Science exam was conducted between 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.

The duration of CBSE Class 10 Social Science paper was 3 hours. There were 37 questions in total and the paper carried 80 marks. Section A consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions, section B consisted of 4 short answer questions, Section C had 5 questions, section D included 4 questions, section E 3 questions, and section F included one map-based question.

Moderate difficulty level

The Difficulty level of CBSE Class 10 Social Science paper was moderate and a bit lengthy. Some students might have time management issues to finish the paper within the allotted time.

Priyanka Swami, TGT social science, KIIT World School, Gurugram, said: ''The social science paper was a balanced mix of analysis and application-based questions; the level of difficulty was moderate. The question paper was a balanced mix of knowledge, analysis, and application-based questions. The paper was a bit lengthy, and therefore, time management could have been a challenge for the class 10 students in today’s social science exam. Overall, students found that the CBSE social science paper was easy and straight from the prescribed syllabus and NCERT books. According to a subject teacher, barring very few questions, the paper is easy and well-balanced.''

NCERT based questions

According to Alka Kapur, Principal Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, all questions were extracted from NCERT textbooks. The Class 10 social science paper was a well-rounded challenge with a moderate difficulty level, including tricky Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) that prompted critical thinking, she added.

Suman Sharma, PGT economics, Manav Rachna International School, Mohali said: "The social science Class 10 question paper was well structured with clear instructions and covered a comprehensive range of topics from history, geography, political science ad economics. The paper was of appropriate length, allowing students to manage their time effectively. Overall, the question paper was deemed fair and balanced, providing a good assessment of students’ understanding of social science concepts."

All the questions were direct and no tricky questions were asked. Map questions were straight forward and simple.

Subjective questions thought provoking but manageable

There was no major change in the paper pattern, therefore the test was simpler and doable. Questions were straightforward. Kapur said, "Map-based questions provided a navigable segment, while subjective questions, particularly those based on statements, proved both thought-provoking and manageable. This balanced approach ensured a comprehensive evaluation of a student's knowledge and analytical skills, making the exam an effective assessment tool."
