CBSE grading, passing criteria for board exams

The current Class 10 (2026-27) batch can continue the old scheme, the board added.

Therefore, subjects such as Language R1, Language R2, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science will be included in the board exams for Class 10 session 2027-28.

In addition to the above, the following subjects will have Board Examination only if a student opts for an optional subject, the board added.

CBSE further added that schools will award only grades (A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2, C-1, C-2, D and E) in the school-based internal assessment of art education and PE and WB. Schools will issue their own certificates, students securing grade D or above, it added.

As per the passing criteria, students should have to obtain at least 33% marks in each of the five subjects, listed above. A student shall be considered pass in a subject, if he/she secures 33% or above as an aggregate of Internal Assessment and Board Examination taken together

In case if a student opts for one of the 22 skill subjects under Vocational (skill Education), and secures less than 33% marks in any one of the three subjects: Science,

Mathematics and Social Science, and passes in the skill subject, then that subject will be replaced by the skill subject and the result of Class 10 board examination will be computed accordingly.
