CBSE, CSIR-IICT collaborate for teacher training on scientific temperament enhancement

NEW DELHI: The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) hosted a specialized teacher training programme on February 16. The programme was in collaboration with the Knowledge Alliance of Middle Schools (KAMP) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) hosted in CSIR IICT, Hyderabad.

The programme, themed "Enhancing Scientific Temperament through Technological Interventions," aimed to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote scientific thinking and innovation among students. More than 60 educators from diverse schools participated in the programme, gaining valuable insights from subject matter experts and researchers.

Moreover, the teachers visited CSIR-IICT labs, where they gained practical learning experience on cutting-edge technologies like anaerobic gas lift reactor technology, water purification technologies, and pheromone technology.

The outreach coordinator at KAMP, Aniket Arora expressed his gratitude to D Srinivasa Reddy, director of CSIR-IICT, and J Vatsalarani for their collaboration. "Such experiential learning is the key to fostering educators and students' deep interest in and understanding of science and other developments in India," he said.

He also highlighted upcoming initiatives like online knowledge-sharing sessions, scientific excursions for students, and further continuous professional development programmes.

During the programme, educators engaged in training sessions conducted by various scientists and researchers, including chair professor at the Symbiosis International University, Aravind Chinchure; Somdatta Karak, outreach officer at CSIR-CCMB; Jageedesh N, principal scientist in CSIR-IICT; S Sridhar chief scientist in CSIR-IICT and J Vatsalarani, senior principal scientist and CSIR-Jigyasa coordinator in CSIR-IICT.
