CBSE’s general body meeting proposes reduced syllabus for 2021 exam

NEW DELHI: At a hurriedly-convened general body meeting (GBM) of the Central Board of Secondary Education, or CBSE, the board decided to consider the highest marks in the best of three subjects for any paper or answer script lost in transit. A principal of a school who did not wish to be named said the usual practice was to consider the average or mean marks of three top subjects.

The results of the CBSE board exams are expected to be declared by July 15. The pending CBSE Class 12 exams were cancelled on the order of the Supreme Court on June 25.

The GBM also has taken decisions that will have far-reaching consequences for the 2020-21 academic session including reducing the syllabus by 33% and that the schools are free to rationalize their curriculum for class 1 to 8.

CBSE board exams 2021

The course material of the board exams 2021 is proposed to be reduced by approximately 33 percent in consultation with the NCERT.

Schools will be free to rationalize the curriculum for Classes 1 to 8, on their own. The GBM was assured that the reduced curriculum for Classes 9 to 12 shall be released very shortly, and most probably, before the end of June.

As only reduced teaching time is available for the board exams 2021 due of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CBSE proposes to make the question papers consisting of 50 percent concept-based multiple-choice questions and the rest, theory-based. The details will be released shortly.

Online verification and diagnostic testing

A repository of CBSE certificates and documents on a Digi-locker for each student from Class 9 onwards,is being prepared to facilitate Online verification.

To improve learning outcomes of students from the very early stages the CBSE plans to introduce “Hand Holding Diagnostic Testing for Conceptional Clarity” in Classes 3, 5 and 8 every year. CBSE expects this will improve the quality of teaching at the lower levels in all schools affiliated to it.

New mobile application for teacher training

A new mobile application, Sameeksha App is being developed for teacher training requirements. This follows the success off the DIKSHA App.

The GBM was told that unique emails have been issued for each school and all correspondence with the CBSE will have to be done through this email.

Extracurricular activities

Apart from making efforts to increase the participation of children in sports and co-curricular activities, various competitions are being planned. The CBSE will also announce modalities for competitions to declare best schools in inclusive education, environment, social service and other aspects.

The CBSE will invite online applications and a fair system of selection will be developed to make the process transparent.

The CBSE had on Friday announced that the results for class 10 and 12 exams will be declared by July 15.

The Exam Controller said the exams which were pending due to the COVID-19 situation have been cancelled.
