In a first, Sanskrit University launches AICTE-approved BTech AI, data science course

The Central Sanskrit University (CSU) has launched the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved BTech Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS) course from the academic session 2026-27.

The AICTE-approved engineering programme has a total sanctioned intake of 66 seats, including 60 regular seats and 6 supernumerary seats.

This is the first time in India that a Sanskrit University is entering the field of engineering education, reflecting the vision of NEP 2020 to transform Sanskrit institutions into multidisciplinary centres of learning.

Sanskrit University: New BTech course

The CSU’s BTech programme combines mainstream engineering education with India's linguistic and knowledge traditions, creating a new pathway for students from Sanskrit and traditional learning backgrounds to pursue modern technical education.

The technical components of the programme include AI, machine learning, data science, python programming, statistics, cloud computing, data analytics and deep learning.

The language and knowledge-system components include Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics, Machine Translation, Speech Recognition, Conversational Al, Language Technologies, Knowledge Representation and OCR for ancient manuscripts.

The programme aims to advance the development of AI-powered tools for Sanskrit and other Indian languages, enhance language technologies, facilitate the digitisation and preservation of manuscripts and classical texts, and foster interdisciplinary research that integrates AI with Indian Knowledge Systems.

The programme is expected to support the development of AI-enabled tools for Sanskrit and Indian languages, strengthen language technologies, enable digitisation and preservation of manuscripts and classical texts, and promote interdisciplinary research linking AI with Indian Knowledge Systems.

Moreover, the new BTech course will also provide opportunities to apply modern computational techniques to traditional domains such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotisha, Vastu, Nyaya and other classical disciplines.
