Centre approves Rs 100-cr Yoga, Naturopathy research institute near Andhra’s Guntur

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Tuesday said the Centre has approved the establishment of a Rs 100 crore CRIYN near Guntur after an official team from the Union Ministry of AYUSH inspected the proposed site. The institute will come up on 15.03 acres at Nadimpalem in Prathipadu mandal and is expected to become operational in 2028, the state health minister said. "The proposed site at Nadimpalem has been found suitable by the Central team for establishing the Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy.

The state government will complete the required infrastructure within three months, after which the land will be handed over to the Centre for construction of the Rs 100-crore institute," Yadav said in a press release. He said the state government would complete land development, road construction, drainage and other basic infrastructure within three months before handing over the site to the Centre.

New AYUSH institute to boost Yoga research

The institute will be established under the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, which functions under the Union Ministry of AYUSH, and is expected to emerge as one of the country's premier institutions for research in yoga and naturopathy, he said. According to the minister, the institute will undertake scientific research to validate the effectiveness of yoga and naturopathy, provide training to doctors and researchers, and offer advanced healthcare services.

A 100-bed yoga and naturopathy hospital will be established on the campus to provide integrated treatment for lifestyle diseases and chronic health conditions, combining research, treatment and training under one roof. The project will include advanced research laboratories, specialised treatment units, training centres and other supporting infrastructure, he added.

Nadimpalem site cleared for CRIYN

Yadav said similar institutes are already functioning at Jhajjar in Haryana, Nagamangala in Karnataka and Dibrugarh in Assam, while construction is under way at Raipur in Chhattisgarh and Jatni in Odisha. He said the Central team had confirmed the suitability of the Nadimpalem site.

During the inspection, officials decided to construct a covered cement drainage canal along the site boundary, develop a 40-foot-wide dedicated access road from National Highway-16 through government land, level low-lying portions of the site and establish a nearby bus stop to improve connectivity.
