CLAT 2025: Supreme Court stays Delhi HC verdict to revise results, next hearing likely on May 13

NEW DELHI: In a legal turn of events, the Supreme Court on Wednesday put a hold on the Delhi High Court's order directing the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the CLAT UG 2025 merit list. The High Court had earlier ordered the revision due to alleged errors in the question paper, raising concerns about fairness in the law entrance exam and admission process.

A Special Leave Petition (SLP) was filed on Friday by a CLAT topper who secured All India Rank (AIR) 22 after the Delhi High Court passed an order on April 23 instructing the Consortium of NLUs to revise the undergraduate (UG) entrance test merit list within four weeks.

The high court had identified errors in four questions from CLAT UG question paper sets B, C, and D. Accepting the objections raised by the petitioners, it directed the Consortium to revise the CLAT 2025 results. However, the petitioner in the latest plea argued that the verdict did not extend the same benefit to Set A candidates, thereby putting them at a disadvantage compared to those who received other sets.

A bench comprising Justice BR Gavai and Justice AG Masih took note of the plea and issued an interim stay order. Notably, the Supreme Court had earlier, in February, transferred all cases related to CLAT from multiple High Courts to the Delhi High Court to prevent “contradictory verdicts.”

The CLAT UG and PG 2025 exams were conducted on December 1 for over 65,000 aspirants. The Consortium declared the CLAT 2025 results on December 8 via its official website, consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Following the announcement, several petitions challenging the answer key were filed, which eventually delayed the CLAT counselling process.

The next Supreme Court hearing on the CLAT matter is tentatively scheduled for May 13.
