NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 18: Coal India Limited, world’s largest coal producer and India’s second-largest public sector employer (after Indian Railways), is about to fill in 9000 vacancies. Yes, you heard that right! Despite the so-called economic slowdown, which has made companies cutoff manpower and related expenses, hearing about 9000 vacancies is like a sigh of relief for job aspirants. Coal India Limited is planning to hire 9,000 people, 4,000 of them in the executive cadre. If media reports are to be believed, this is going to be the biggest recruitment drive by the largest miner. The executives will be picked up by the holding company, while the workers and technical employees will be recruited by its eight subsidiaries.

According to a senior Coal India executive,

“Coal India is recruiting so many executives in a single year in almost a decade in an effort to fill up all the vacancies that have been pending for several years. Last year, we recruited only about 1,200 people"

The official continued by saying that,

“Of the 4,000 executives, 900 would be through advertisements and interview-based in the junior category, another 400 would be recruited from campuses and some 100 would be miscellaneous like medical officers, etc. We have already recruited 400 executives and most of whom are doctors. Another 75 have been recruited and would be joining soon. The company will recruit around 2,200 additional executives through competitive examinations,”

Coal India Limited currently has a staff of around 280,000 out of which 18,000 of them are executives.

Coal India Limited's seven coal-producing subsidiaries are about to recruit 5,000 workers and technical hands. The company will recruit around 2,300 as part of their policy to offer jobs to families of people whose land they have acquired to set up projects.

Around 2,350 candidates will be hired as their policy to offer job to a family member of a staff who died before retirement and around 400 candidates will be hired for non-technical posts.

Founded in 1975, a large number of people have now reached their retirement age. Over the last three years, on average, about 12,300 employees have retired which has created a huge space for newcomers to take over the positions falling vacant.

Hence, Coal India Limited needs large-scale recruitment to make sure its workforce position is adequate.

Coal India is also promoting non-executives, the backlog which was pending since 2013, and have already completed the task till 2017 by promoting around 3,000 people in non-technical posts, while another 3,000 will be promoted soon.

Candidates are advised to visit the official website of Coal India Limited, coalindia.in/ for further job-related notification.
