NEW DELHI: E-learning platform NPTEL, or National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning , has postponed its exams scheduled on March 29.
This is in the wake of the country-wide lock-down to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Candidates can now write the exam on April 25 or April 26, depending on their preference. However, date allocation would be based on the availability of seats.
Why exams were postponed
NPTEL decided to change the exam date after a lot of candidates were forced to change their location after the spread of coronavirus.
Most of them could be in places other than what they had chosen as their exam centres for NPTEL exams scheduled in March-April.
Options
NPTEL has provided the option of changing their exam city, if required. It would be “allotted based on availability and for all exams registered by the candidate (both March and April)”, an official statement said. Allotment of the actual session will be based on availability.
However, candidates cannot change the courses for which exams are scheduled in April.
NPTEL offers self-study courses across engineering, humanities and science streams and onli ne certifications, including some that are certified by Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT).
Earlier, the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had instructed regulatory bodies and educational institutions to postpone all exams to April and shut down universities till March 31.
Following this, the Central Board of Secondary Education ( CBSE ) and state boards have postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 exams beyond March 31.
The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts entrance exams, has postponed the popular national engineering test, JEE (Main).
To contain the coronavirus outbreak, the government has initiated a series of prohibitory measures across the country, including shutting down of services like railways, certain flights and other transport.
