Uttar Pradesh Covid Cases: As UP Covid cases and Omicron cases rise, Allahabad University (AU) has prohibited the entry of outsiders on the university campus. The University of Allahabad further asked students to attend classes in online mode. 

AU has also released a notification regarding the conduct of online classes. The university has asked teachers, research scholars and staff to strictly follow the Omicron-Covid guidelines while visiting the campus.

Assam Covid Cases: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has been declared a containment zone by the Assam government as IIT Guwahati Covid cases increased. About 60 individuals of IIT Guwahati have tested positive for coronavirus from the campus, reported ANI.

Aligarh Muslim University vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor got tested Covid positive, the university said, as per a PTI India report. 

The VC has isolated himself at his official residence, but continues to attend to his duties in online mode, the AMU announced on social media.

Covid Cases in UP: 69 active Covid cases are reported in Aligarh as of January 5, says the Uttar Pradesh government data. Over 30 teachers of AMU died during the second wave of the pandemic, said the university officials. 

The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, West Bengal asked students to leave the campus as staying in hostels may give rise to Covid cases in the campus, reported the Telegraph India.  

In case of any student not being able to return home, the student has to submit a consent letter from the parent. Students staying on the campus will not be permitted to go outside the campus (except for medical purposes) without the permission of the chief warden.

According to an IIEST official, 130 students of BTech, MTech courses, and research scholars are residing on the campus. IIEST had partially opened the campus as they were calling back the students for practical classes and letting them attend online classes from the WiFi-enabled hostels. Although none has been tested positive yet in the campus, 

Covid Cases in West Bengal: 14,022 fresh Covid cases has been reported in West Bengal on January 5, 2022, making the total active cases in the state 33,042. 

Delhi Covid Cases: Delhi may witness around 14,000 fresh Covid cases on Thursday, said Satyendar Jain, health minister. 

When asked whether the Delhi government was planning for a lockdown in the city, Jain said that the Delhi government has implemented all the necessary precautionary measures such as night curfew and weekend curfew, and there is no need for a lockdown right now.

Application deadline for nursery admissions in Delhi private schools has been extended by two weeks owing to the rise in Delhi Covid cases, Manish Sisodia, deputy chief minister, said today. Earlier, the last date to apply for nursery admissions in Delhi private schools was set as January 12. Nursery admission 2022-23 Delhi dates has now been changed as Omicron in Delhi is also on the rise. 

IIM Calcutta asked students who reside outside the containment zones to leave the campus by January 9. The number of IIM Calcutta Covid cases has increased over the last few days. More than 50 students of IIMC tested Covid positive, reported the Telegraph India. 

Students are not allowed to go outside the IIMC campus except for essential purposes till they vacate the campus. 

IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur Covid cases: Covid cases has also been reported in IIT Guwahati and IIT Kharagpur.

Schools closed in Bangalore: The Karnataka government has closed schools and pre-university colleges for two weeks in Bangalore except for Class 10 and Class 12. 

Schools in Maharashtra Closed: Schools are closed in Aurangabad for classes 1 to 8 till January 31 as Aurangabad Municipal Corporation suspended physical classes to avoid crowding in schools to limit the increase in Maharashtra Covid cases. But offline classes will continue for students of classes 9 to 12.

CBSE Circular 2021-22: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked the heads of the CBSE affiliated schools to encourage parents, teachers and staff of the schools to get their children of age group 15-18 years, vaccinated as per guidelines of the government as soon as possible. 

On December 27, 2021, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare issued guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination of Children between 15-18 years from January 3, 2022, onwards under the National Vaccination Programme. 

Cowin Vaccine Registration: Corona vaccination registration can be done on the Cowin platform. Onsite registration option is also made available. Vaccination certificate can also be downloaded from cowin.gov in. 

Omicron in India: On Thursday, 495 Omicron cases were registered in India. There is a total of 2,630 Omicron active cases in India, says the Union health ministry data. 

Out of the total Omicron cases in India, Maharashtra has the maximum Omicron cases at 797, followed by Delhi at 465, Rajasthan 236, Kerala 234, Karnataka 226, Gujarat 204 and Tamil Nadu 121. 

Covid in India: 90,928 new coronavirus infections were reported. This is the highest recorded in over 200 days. 

Due to a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government, in the latest notice, ordered the closure of schools from January 6 to January 16, 2022. Schools will remain closed for Class 10 and below. However, online classes will continue for these students. Students of Classes 11-12 should be called to school only for vaccination purposes and given holiday on the vaccination day and the next day. Their classes should be conducted through online mode only, the official notice read. Over 4,60,000 adolescents have received their first Covid vaccine shot under the drive to inoculate those in the 15-18 age group in the state.

NIT Director professor Lalit Awasthi said most of the infected students had taken part in an NCC camp, and there is a possibility that they contracted the disease there. All infected students have been put under isolation inside the institution, he added. A spokesperson of the health department said other students and the staff of NIT Hamirpur would be tested.

Forty-two students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, a district official said. He said 53 people tested positive for the disease in the district during the day and 42 of them are from the institute. This has raised the number of active cases to 99 in the district.

More than 1 crore (1,24,02,515) COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered to children in the 15-18 age group since the inoculation drive began for them on January 3, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday, PTI reported.

Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday called upon public-minded individuals, social advocacy groups, medical professionals and the government to reach out to people to remove vaccine hesitancy that may be stopping India in its collective fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He also urged parents to get their children in the age group of 15 to 18 years vaccinated at the earliest, PTI reported.

In light of the spike in COVID-19 cases, night-time restrictions have been imposed in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district from 9 pm to 6 am to prevent the viral spread, an official said on Wednesday. Schools, Anganwadi centres, libraries and swimming pools have also been shut in the district, the official said, PTI reported.

Currently, Gautam Buddh Nagar, which includes Noida and Greater Noida, is the only district with over 1,000 active cases of the disease. Physical classes up to 10th standard in all schools will remain suspended till January 14, District Magistrate Suhas L Yathiraj said, as per PTI.

With the surge in COVID-19 caseload and detection of more Omicron cases in the state in the past 72 hours, Odisha government Wednesday decided to extend the night curfew in towns by an hour and stopped physical classes up to standard twelve, PTI reported.

Sixty people have tested positive for COVID-19 in IIT Guwahati and its authorities have declared the entire campus as a containment zone, an official order said on Wednesday, as per PTI.

Nearly 160 resident doctors of hospitals in Mumbai run by the Maharashtra government and the local civic corporation have tested positive for coronavirus in the last three days, a senior office-bearer of their association said on Wednesday, PTI reported.

To tackle the rising coronavirus cases, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday ordered closure of all schools upto Class 9. Physical classes will continue for students of classes 10, 12 considering board exams and vaccination drive, CM announced.

Tamil Nadu government has announced night curfew from January 6, shutdown on Sunday, to curb rising COVID cases, PTI reported.

1.06 crore (14.3%) of India's adolescents aged 15-18 have been administered 1st dose of Covid vaccine, says Government, as per PTI.

Around 1.5 lakh children between 15 and 18 years of age in Mizoram are expected to be inoculated during the ongoing phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for this group of beneficiaries, Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said on Wednesday. At least 446 children in this age group have received the first jab in the northeastern state since the beginning of the nationwide inoculation programme on January 3, PTI reported.

The Union health ministry on Wednesday said COVID-19 patients under home isolation will stand discharged after at least seven days from testing positive and no fever for three successive days, in revised guidelines for home isolation of mild or asymptomatic cases, PTI reported.

As coronavirus infections surged in Mumbai, the city could witness a peak between January 6 to 13 and take a month for the cases to see a decline, according to researchers at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), PTI reported.

The third wave of COVID-19 pandemic has hit Delhi and the city is expected to record 10,000 new cases on Wednesday with a positivity rate of 10 per cent, city Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, PTI reported.

Twenty-one students pursuing MBBS course from the Vijayanagar Medical college in Karnataka have tested positive for coronavirus, authorities said on Wednesday. According to college authorities, random tests were conducted among 250 students staying at a hostel, who were exposed to the virus, PTI reported.

Assam Covid Cases: Over 50 people in IIT Guwahati, Assam have tested positive for COVID-19. This includes students as well as one faculty member. The authorities have imposed restrictions on the IITG campus, an official said on Wednesday, as per a PTI India report. 

A vast majority of the Covid cases were detected in people who returned to the campus from outside the state of Assam after holidays, said Parmeshwar Iyer, dean-PR, IIT Guwahati.

In a similar incident, IIT Kharagpur reported 60 Covid cases including 40 students and researchers residing on the campus.

Karnataka Covid Cases: Sudhakar K, Karnataka health minister claims to have vaccinated 7.96 lakh children of 15 to 17 age group in just two days.

Bihar Covid Cases: Four ministers of Bihar, all belonging to the Nitish Kumar cabinet, tested positive for COVID 19 on Wednesday, as per PTI India. 

The deputy chief ministers Renu Devi, Tar Kishor Prasad, and ministers Ashok Choudhary and Sunil Kumar were the members who tested positive. All cabinet members had undergone RTPCR tests well before the cabinet meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Bihar School News: The government in the new Bihar Covid guidelines closed pre-school and schools for Classes 1 to 8. Classes 9 to 12 are permitted to function with half of the total capacity.

Mizoram Covid Cases: 443 new COVID-19 cases were registered in Mizoram on Wednesday. The state recorded a Covid positivity rate of 13.38 per cent, a health official said, as per PTI India. 

Recent updates suggest 2,162 active cases in Mizoram. The total death toll became 553 as one person died in Aizawl.

Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) has scheduled the HSLC and HSSLC exams recently. The HSLC examinations 2022 are supposed to be held from February 28 to March 16, 2022.

The Delhi government has asked school principals to upload the status of vaccinated students on Google Tracker every day by 4 pm, reported the Times of India. 

Delhi Schools Closed: With schools closed in Delhi NCR, many schools are made vaccination centres to administer vaccines to students between the age of 15 and 18 years. 

Covid in Delhi: The third wave of COVID-19 pandemic has hit Delhi and the city is expected to record 10,000 new cases on Wednesday with a positivity rate of 10 per cent, city Health Minister Satyendar Jain said. 

Covid Protocol in Delhi: The Delhi government on Tuesday announced a weekend curfew and work from home for its offices as the city recorded 5,481 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest number since May 16, with positivity rate of 8.37 per cent and three fatalities. Delhi schools remain shut.

Covid 19 in India: In other news, Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam says he, along with his wife Madhurima and son Nevaan, has tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently under home quarantine in Dubai.

Covid 19 India Update: The West Bengal education department will grant quarantine leave to teaching and non-teaching staff of West Bengal schools, colleges and universities. The teachers can avail themselves of the leave, in case if the family or household of such employees is infected with the coronavirus. Covid, Omicron cases are on the rise in the state.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi has announced that it is cancelling winter vacation from January 5 to January 10, amid rising Covid, Omicron case in India. AIIMS has also asked its faculties to join, reported the Live Mint.

Colleges Closed in Karnataka: In view of surging Karnataka Covid cases, the Karnataka government announced new Covid guidelines which suspended offline classes for two weeks. But offline classes will be held for Class 10, 12 and medical, nursing colleges, said Sudhakar K, minister of health and family welfare. 

The guidelines also imposed night curfew and weekend curfew in Karnataka. Commercial establishments will be allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity.

School Closed News: The Goa government has announced schools and colleges will remain shut till January 26. Chief minister Pramod Sawant also said a night curfew is likely to be imposed in the state soon. 

Goa Covid Cases: The Covid-19 positivity rate in Goa has reached 10.7 per cent after New Year celebrations, 

Goa School News: “Physical classes for classes 8 and 9 in schools will be discontinued from tomorrow till January 26,” Shekhar Salkar, a member of the Goa Covid-19 Task Force, told reporters in Panaji. Students of classes 11 and 12 are required to attend classes to take the vaccine against COVID-19.

In view of a steady increase in COVID-19 cases, the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 10 till January 15 and extended the night curfew by two hours. The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on a day the state reported 992 new infection cases. Currently, no UP district has more than 1,000 coronavirus cases.

"The state government has decided that now all adolescents between the age group of 15 to 18 years will be vaccinated against corona by the health department teams in schools," CMO Haryana tweeted.

A total of 350 people, including 140 students studying in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University tested positive for COVID-19, Jagran news reported.

In Uttar Pradesh, Noida has 165, Ghaziabad has 174, Lucknow has 150, and Meerut has 102 cases.

Over 1.51 lakh teenagers were administered the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Haryana in the first two days of the drive to inoculate children in the age group of 15 to 18, officials said on Tuesday, PTI reported.

Mumbai reported 10,860 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, up 34.37 per cent from a day ago and highest daily count since April 7, 2021, while two more patients succumbed to the infection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said, as per PTI.

Weekend curfew will return in the national capital as the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday decided to reimpose some more restrictions in the wake of a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases driven by the fast-spreading Omicron variant, PTI reported.

Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant on Tuesday said they have tested positive for COVID-19, PTI reported.

The Delhi government has on Tuesday instructed all school principals to upload the vaccination status of students under the 15-18 age group daily by 4 pm. The Covid-19 vaccination for children began on January 3 and the state governments launched the drive in view of the recent global surge of COVID-19 and Omicron cases.

Preparations are underway for hosting the 45th Kolkata International Book Fair from January 31 despite the spike in COVID-19 cases with organisers stating on Tuesday that publishers may have to starve if it is cancelled this year as well. The book fair was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, PTI reported.

Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday insisted upon special measures for Bengaluru amid an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the city, PTI reported.

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday said if the daily COVID-19 cases here cross the 20,000-mark, a lockdown will be imposed in the city as per the Union government's rules, PTI reported.

Nearly 5,500 fresh cases of Covid have been reported in Delhi on Tuesday with a positivity rate of about 8.5 per cent, Health Minister Satyendar Jain said while asserting that the weekend curfew imposed in the city should not be treated as a lockdown, as per PTI.

A total of 80 people, including doctors, students and support staff, of the Government Rajindra Hospital and Medical College in Punjab's Patiala have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said on Tuesday, as per PTI.

Covid in India: As schools closed in Punjab, Delhi, Goa and Haryana, the National Coalition on the Education Emergency, an organisation based in Bengaluru, has opposed school closure due to the rise in Covid cases. Sixty persons, including 40 students and researchers residing on IIT Kharagpur's campus have tested positive for Covid-19, an official said Tuesday. Punjab colleges are fast becoming Covid hotspots. A many as 100 medical students of Government Medical College in Patiala tested Covid 19 positive on January 3. In a similar incident, 93 engineering students of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, in Patiala had tested corona positive in the previous week, reported NDTV. 

Punjab Government Covid Guidelines: Colleges and Schools are closed in Punjab except for nursing and medical colleges. Night curfew in Punjab has been imposed from 10 pm to 5 am. 

School, colleges closed in Punjab, except medical and nursing colleges as the Charanjit Singh Channi-led Congress government in Punjab imposed new Covid restrictions in the state. The education institutions have been told to continue academic activities in virtual mode, reported the Hindustan Times.

Night Curfew in Punjab: The Punjab night curfew will be active from 10 pm to 5 am.

Schools Closed in Telangana: Schools in Telangana will stay closed from January 8 to 16 as the K Chandrasekhar Rao, the chief minister announced holidays for all educational institutions on Monday.

Earlier, the Telangana government had decided to reopen schools on September 1 following Covid-19 protocols.

Three BTech final year students of the National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT-R), two professors and five of their family members tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. As per reports, BTech final year students started returning to the campus in different phases from first week of December as NIT Rourkela reopened campus in phased-manner.

35 students of IIT Kharagpur tested positive for Covid-19 and have been isolated in Asutsoh Mukherjee Hall. The institute has restricted mingling on campus. Close to 2000 students returned to campus in the last week of December, as per reports. “All the affected students and staff members have been kept in isolation. They are under treatment,” said Tamal Nath, registrar of IIT Kharagpur, as per the TOI report.

Thirty-five people at Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta and 35 35 at Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur have tested positive for Covid-19. IIM Calcutta has prohibited students and teachers from leaving the Joka campus unless medical emergency, the Times of India reported. Students reportedly have mild symptoms of Covid-19.  While students of IIT Kharagpur have been isolated in Asutsoh Mukherjee Hall. The institute has restricted mingling on campus. A total of 1,892 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected across 23 states and Union Territories so far, out of which 766 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Tuesday. Maharashtra has recorded the maximum number of 568 cases, followed by Delhi (382), Kerala (185), Rajasthan (174), Gujarat (152), and Tamil Nadu (121). The Jharkhand government on Monday decided to re-impose pandemic-related restrictions, shutting down all educational institutions and tourist places till January 15 and capping employee attendance at 50 per cent in offices.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Monday said the state has congratulated the Centre for starting the COVID-19 vaccination of children in the 15-18 age group, but at the same time also requested it to allow those in the 12-15 age bracket to get inoculated.

Amid a rapid surge in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai, including the Omicron variant, the civic body on Monday decided to shut schools for Classes 1 to 9 and also 11 till January 31, while over 6,100 children were inoculated on first day of vaccination for the 15-18 age group in the metropolis. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said students of Classes 10 and 12 are excluded from this decision which means they can attend schools in-person. However, students of Classes 9 and 11 will be allowed to visit schools for receiving vaccine doses as part of the inoculation drive for the 15-18 age group, an official said.

Over 90,000 teenagers were administered coronavirus jab in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, after Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched from Mandi the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for those in the age group of 15 to 18, a government spokesperson said. The vaccination campaign was launched at the Government Vijay Senior Secondary School (Boys) in Mandi with Class 12 humanities student Ravi Kumar becoming the first student to get the first dose of Covaxin.

Madhya Pradesh vaccinated more than 10 lakh beneficiaries in the age group 15-18 on the first day of drive for them on Monday, placing it on top among states in terms of jabs, state medical education minister Vishvas Sarang said as the nation rolled out its inoculation programme for children against coronavirus amid a surge in new cases.

In view of rising Covid cases, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced holidays to be declared at all educational institutions in the state from January 8 to 16. At a meeting with ministers and officials on the rising COVID-19 cases in Telangana, Rao said beds, oxygen-supported beds, medicines and testing kits be procured as required, according to an official release.

The Delhi government has asked all school principals to daily upload the status of vaccinated students on Google Tracker by 4 pm without fail, officials said on Monday. Over 20,900 teenagers received their first vaccine dose as the inoculation drive for the 15 to 18 age group began at 169 vaccination centres in Delhi on Monday, PTI reported.

As India launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive for the 15-18 age group on Monday, over 40 lakh children received their first dose with many of the beneficiaries and their parents saying they feel a sense of relief, especially in the backdrop of the fresh rise in cases, PTI reported.

The Lakshadweep administration on Monday launched the COVID-19 vaccination programme for the adolescents aged between 15 to 18 years in the islands, officials said, as per PTI.

Over 20,900 children of Delhi in the age of 15 to 18 years received Covid vaccine doses on the first day of the inoculation drive of this group of beneficiaries. In the northeast district, the highest 3,687 children were vaccinated. In the Central district, the least 739 children received the vaccine shots till 6 pm, PTI reported.

The vaccination drive for those between 15 and 18 years of age kicked off on Monday with over 1.50 lakh children being administered vaccine doses in the state on the first day, a government spokesman said. Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the vaccination drive for children at the Civil Hospital in the state capital, PTI reported.

Over 4.94 lakh children in the age group of 15-18 years were on Monday administered the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the first day of the week-long drive launched to cover nearly 36 lakh beneficiaries in the new category, the state health department said., as per PTI.

 Over 3,000 teenagers took their first jab across Gautam Buddh Nagar on Monday as anti-coronavirus vaccination started for the 15-18 age group in the district, officials said. The vaccines were administered to them at 42 centres, including 27 government facilities, spread across Noida and Greater Noida, the officials said, as per PTI.

Amid rising coronavirus cases in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is expected to consider more restrictions -- to arrest the spread of the infection -- in its meeting scheduled on Tuesday, official sources said. Delhi added 4,099 new COVID-19 cases with positivity rate jumping to 6.46 percent in the past 24 hours, PTI reported.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday rolled out COVID-19 vaccination drive for teenagers in the age bracket of 15-18 years and announced plans to completely inoculate them within the next two months. Sarma launched the programme at Oil India Higher Secondary School at Duliajan, where 405 eligible school students were vaccinated, PTI reported.

Vaccination of children, aged 15 to 18, against the coronavirus began on Monday in Agra, even as the district recorded 33 new cases, officials said. "There are 32 centres for the vaccination of children in Agra city and in rural areas of the district. They can book their slots using the CoWIN portal," Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Arun Kumar Srivastava told PTI.

Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday chaired an emergency meeting of ministers, senior officials and asked district level authorities to increase testing and also impose restrictions on major public events to prevent crowding. Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly and it seems a third wave of infections is approaching, the CM said, but added that a lockdown will be the last option, PTI reported.

Over 12.3 lakh children have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses across states/UTs till 3 pm on the first day of the inoculation drive of those in the age-group of 15 to 18 years on Monday, PTI reported.

"3 students of NIT Rourkela (2 boys and one girl) test positive for Covid19; all three of them are in isolation and their health condition is stable, inform authorities," OTV said in a tweet.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive for adolescents aged 15-18 years from Sanatan Dharma Inter College in the Race Course area here. A total of 6,28,000 children in the state in the 15-18 age group will be administered the vaccine doses during the drive, Dhami said, as per PTI.

"Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to hold an important meeting to review the COVID situation in Pune tomorrow. Decision on fresh restrictions including regarding schools in Pune are expected: Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol," ANI said in a tweet.

Along with the rest of the country, the COVID-19 vaccination drive for teenagers in the 15-18 age group was launched in Nagaland on Monday. Launching the drive at Dimapur District Hospital, Health Minister S Pangyu Phom said that the state has received 1.43 lakh doses, which will be distributed among all the districts, as per PTI report.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive for beneficiaries in the 15-18 age group from a government school here on Monday, expressing confidence about completing the inoculation of the targeted 8.33 lakh population across the Union Territory in a week., PTI reported.

"All universities and colleges (state/government or private) shall remain closed till 12th January for students. The staff shall attend colleges/universities as usual and online classes will take place regularly: Haryana Higher Education Department," OTV said in a tweet.

Over 100 doctors in three different hospitals of Kolkata have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, a senior health official said on Monday. At least 70 doctors of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, 24 medical practitioners of Chittaranjan Seva Sadan and Shishu Sadan Hospital in Kalighat, and 12 of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology have tested positive for the infection, the official told PTI.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday launched the COVID-19 vaccination drive for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years with a target of reaching 31.75 lakh beneficiaries. The Chief Minister launched the vaccination drive at BBMP Higher Primary and Pre-University College, Bairaveshwara Nagara, Moodalapalya in the city, PTI reported.

 Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday kickstarted vaccination of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years against coronavirus at a school here. The initiative was started at the Thillayadi Valliammai Government High School in Kadirkamam, PTI reported.

Faced with fresh COVID-19 threats, the Karnataka government is considering more containment measures to control the spread of the virus and the state cabinet is likely decide in this regard, later this week after consulting experts, PTI reported.

Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao on Monday launched the COVID-19 inoculation drive for children in the age group of 15-18 years at a health centre in the city. He said 1,014 vaccination centres have been started in the state for the 15-18 age group and observed that 18.70 lakh children are estimated to be eligible for receiving the shots in the state, as per PTI.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive for those in the 15 to 18 years age group at a government school on Monday. He urged people to diligently follow precautions and the government's instructions on COVID-19 and its variants, particularly the highly transmissible Omicron, and said face mask and vaccine serve to protect one from the infection for now, PTI reported.

Professor Manindra Agarwal of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has said that the third wave of the pandemic will end by April, the Business Standard reported.

Covid News in Bangalore: As Covid cases in Bengaluru is increasing, many private schools are concerned about low attendance in offline classes, while some have deferred the reopening of schools after Christmas vacation. According to many schools, parents are not entertaining the idea of resuming physical classes after Christmas vacation as Bengaluru Covid cases are on the rise, reported the Times of India. 

Delhi Public Schools have decided to continue both online and offline in order to avoid forcing parents to send their wards for offline classes. 

Current Covid Cases in Bangalore (Omicron): Omicron in Bangalore has increased to eight, out of which five are international travellers. 10 new cases of Omicron have been reported in Karnataka on January 2. The total number of Omicron cases in Karnataka is now 76, said Sudhakar K, minister of health and family welfare, Karnataka.

Covid Cases in Nashik: As many as 17 dental college students in Nashik were tested for Covid, and got corona positive reports on Sunday. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) health officials say that these students recently moved to the college hostel, reported the Times of India. 

"Those students who tested positive are asymptomatic, and their health condition is normal. They are now under quarantine in hostel rooms," Ajita Salunke, medical superintendent of NMC, told TOI. 

According to various media reports, Maharashtra minister, Vijay Wadettiwar cited a possible lockdown in Maharashtra. 

In the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur campus, 43 students have been tested corona positive till Sunday. The number of Covid cases is doubling in a span of two days, said an official of the institute, reported the Telegraph India. The Covid cases saw a significant rise after the IITK convocation event that was held on the campus on December 18.

Apart from online registration in the CoWIN platform at www.cowin.in, students can also get vaccinated through onsite registration. Both government and private vaccination centres are instructed to facilitate onsite registration facilities. Vaccination report download can be done through the CoWIN platform. Vaccination certificate will be reflected after getting vaccinated. Citizens including the 15-18 age group children are entitled to free Covid vaccination.

The Rajasthan government has announced that schools in Jaipur for Classes 1 to 8 will remain shut from January 3 to January 9. The district collectors have been given the authority to decide if schools need to be shut down according to the cases in the district, as per reports.

The Goa government is aiming to inoculate all 72,000 children in the 15-18 age group against COVID-19 with the first dose in the next four days after vaccination opens for them on Monday, state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Sunday.

Assam's Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has announced that the state government plans to vaccinate school students before Class 10, 12 board exams 2022, which is likely to be held in March or April. Covid vaccination for children begins today.

A total of 1,700 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected across 23 states and Union Territories so far, out of which 639 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Monday. Ten more cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus have been detected in Karnataka, the State's Health Minister K Sudhakar said on Monday. This takes the state's Omicron tally to 76. "Ten new cases of Omicron have been confirmed in Karnataka on Jan 2nd taking the tally to 76. Bengaluru: 8 cases (of which 5 are international travellers).

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan laid emphasis on conducting vaccination against the viral infection on a war footing as the drive to inoculate children in the 15 to 18 years age group began on Monday.

Covid vaccination for children of age group 15 to 18 begins today

The West Bengal government is shutting all schools, colleges educational institutions from today, January 3, 2022. Due to surge in Odisha Covid-19 cases, the Odisha government on Sunday said that it was withholding its decision to reopen schools for students of Classes 1 to 5 from Monday. Odisha schools were scheduled to open on January 3 as per the directions of the chief minister. Physical classes were planned to be resumed in about 27,000 schools in Odisha.
