Tamil Nadu School Reopen: Offline classes will resume for classes 1 to 12, and colleges

NEW DELHI: Schools and colleges will reopen in Tamil Nadu from February 1 for students studying in Classes 1 to 12 as well as colleges, as per an announcement by the chief minister, MK Stalin. “Offline classes will be conducted in all schools from February 1 following the standard COVID-19 guidelines,” said Stalin in a Twitter post.

The Tamil Nadu government has also revoked the night curfew and Sunday lockdown owing to the declining trend in Covid cases in the state. However, playschools and nurseries will remain closed, as per a government release.
According to the new guidelines, restaurants will be allowed to function with half of their seating capacity. The TN government also permitted theatres, gyms, clubs, conferences, salons, musical events etc. to operate with 50 percent capacity.

Marriage functions are allowed with a limit on the number of individuals attending set at 100. Funerals can be conducted with a maximum of up to 50 members. However, the ban on cultural festivals and political meetings will continue.
Schools were closed in Tamil Nadu on January 5 up to Class 9 due to the surge in Covid cases in the state. But offline classes continued for students of classes 10 and 12 due to approaching board exams and vaccination for children of the age group 15 to 18 years.
