CT College Punjab: Protest staged against alleged assault on Kashmiri students; 14 suspended

NEW DELHI: Conflict heightened at CT College in Jalandhar following a complaint from a Kashmiri student about harassment by non-local classmates. Despite filing a complaint with the administration, Kashmiri students alleged that their concerns were disregarded. This situation resulted in protests and clashes between Kashmiri and non-Kashmiri students.

The problem started when a female student from Kashmir was reportedly harassed and taunted by non-local students at CT College Jalandhar. The J-K Students Association informed via its official X handle (formally Twitter) that despite filing a complaint with the CT college administration, the student's concerns were allegedly overlooked.

This has led to widespread anger among Kashmiri students and escalated tensions within the campus community. Students from Kashmir have claimed that they were brutally attacked by non-local individuals, the J-K Students Association further said.

In the earlier stages of the dispute, there was a clash between Kashmiri and non-Kashmiri students within the CT Institute campus. During this altercation, both groups reportedly threw bricks, stones, and chairs at each other, the J-K students association said in a statement.

“A committee has been formed in this regard. To ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri students, they have been sent back to the valley with the support of the college management. Special transport was arranged for Kashmiri students to travel back to their hometown,” the J-K Students Association posted on X.

CT College Punjab: 14 students suspended

J-K Students Association said that they have communicated with Jalandhar Police Commissioner Gurshan Singh, urging him to intervene. Additionally, they contacted the local Station House Officer (SHO) Bharat Masih to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students. As of now, no first information report (FIR) has been filed against Kashmiri students, it further said.

The CT Institute administration has suspended 14 students in connection with this incident. The Jalandhar Police is actively investigating the matter, the J-K Students Association informed through its X handle.

The Central Committee of J-K Students Association (JKSA) has proposed the dissolution of the entire JKUT team and its operations in Jammu and Kashmir. The association has decided to disband its team, including UT executive members, and university and college teams. Consequently, we are hereby ceasing our operations with immediate effect.
