The CBSE administers the CTET exam twice a year. The CTET exam 2026 is going to be administered in an offline mode. According to the trends, the CTET exam 2026 will be administered in 132 cities nationwide in twenty different languages.
Candidates must note that, “The Supreme Court's TET mandate states that candidates who want to become teachers must take the CTET exam. Additionally, if they have less than five years of work left, prospective and present teachers who were hired prior to the RTE Act are exempt from taking the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).”
CTET Exam 2026: Eligibility criteria
For the candidate's reference, below is the CTET eligibility criteria 2026:
- Nationality : Indian citizens only.
- Paper 1 (Classes 1-5): Class 12 with 50%/45% marks + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/Education or 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education, or Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree + BEd.
- Paper 2 (Classes 6-8): Graduation with 50%/40% marks + 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or B.Ed or 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education, or Senior Secondary with 50% marks + cleared/appearing in final year of B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed or B.A/B.Sc.Ed.

CTET 2026: Supreme Court order on mandatory eligibility rule
According to the Supreme Court mandate, it is now compulsory for every candidate who wants to become a teacher to take the TET examination. The Supreme Court also ruled that if a teacher has less than five years left on their job contract and was hired prior to the RTE Act, they are exempt from taking the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET).
