NEW DELHI, MARCH 19: The protest to arrest Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Professor Atul Johri has grown, as even after four days of the filing of the complaint by girl students no action has been against him by the University administration.
On Thursday Nine women students of the University filed an FIR against Prof Johri under sections 354 & 509 accusing him of sexual harassment, abuse of power and sexual misconduct. The Delhi Police is likely to question Prof Johri today.
The students have demanded his immediate arrest as they are alleging that Atul Johri is the Professor at the School of Life Sciences also close to the University administration which might affect the whole case.
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) is also going to hold a protest march from JNU Admin block to Vasant Kunj P.S. demanding Atul Johri's arrest.
Many of the alumni and teachers of the University have also come out in support of protesting students and are demanding his arrest and a thorough investigation be conducted. In an unbiased manner. Prof. Johri is also the Director of the JNU’s Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the Director of the Human Resource Development Cell.
As an alumnus of SLS, JNU Malika Saint tweeted, “I can vouch for Dr. Johri being a person with a glad eye. It was a matter of time someone filed a complaint. My support for the complainants & the people fighting on their behalf. Johri must go and justice must be done.”
On the other hand JNU Registrar in his letter has stated that the University administration did contact the nine female students and while the discussion with these students was happening a large number of protesting students entered the building because of which the members had to leave.
