Dharmendra Pradhan meets Australian health minister; recognition of nursing programmes discussed

Ministers agreed to work together in areas of skilling and to address global demands of skilled workforce.
NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan today met Mark Butler, Australian minister for health and aged care and discussed mutual recognition of qualifications in nursing and age-care programmes.
The ministers deliberated on sharing of training content and harmonisation of skills in nursing and age-care programmes. They also talked about lowering of costs and language proficiency for enabling ease-of-entry of skilled professionals in both the countries.

The ministers agreed to collaborate for achieving mutual objectives in priority areas of skilling and addressing global demands of skilled workforce.
Earlier, a roundtable on health workforce training and skill pathways was also held in New Delhi. The members present at the conference discussed innovative collaborations in education, skill development, and healthcare partnership between India and Australia.
Butler and secretary of ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship Atul Kumar Tiwari held discussions which would assist in charting out a path for both countries to develop and utilise talent, build competencies, streamline recruitment across borders, as well as define the future of India's contribution to healthcare in Australia, an official statement read.
Both countries recognise the valuable contributions they can offer each other. As this partnership evolves, they will continue to enhance the capabilities and expertise necessary to shape the future of these critical sectors, it added.
