Engineers Day 2023: Why is it celebrated? Know top IITs, NITs, engineering colleges

Engineers’ Day is celebrated on September 15 on the birth anniversary of M Visvesvaraya, a civil engineer known for construction of Krishna Raja Sagara Dam.
NEW DELHI: India has emerged as the hub of engineering education with around 4,500 colleges offering more than 15 lakh Bachelor of Technology seats annually. Aspirants from across the country are vying for a seat in the top engineering colleges of the country through the Joint Entrance Examination held every year for admission to various engineering colleges.
Today on Engineer’s Day we take a look at the importance of the occasion and also on the rankings of engineering colleges. Engineers’ Day is observed on September 15 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of M Visvesvaraya.
M Visvesvaraya
He was a civil engineer with the government of British India and later served as prime minister of the Kingdom of Mysore. He is best known for the construction of Krishna Raja Sagara Dam on confulence of the Kaveri and the Hemavati. He was bestowed the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
The top ranking of higher education institutes offering engineering are captured by the Indian Institutes of technology. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023 is topped by IIT Madras.
