FLAME University's short film selected at WHO-led film festival; Only Indian entry in the category

NEW DELHI: A short film titled 'On the Spectrum', directed, shot and edited by the FLAME University has officially been selected at the Health for All Film festival (HAFF), an initiative by the World Health Organisation (WHO). A statement from the university said that the film has been selected in the fourth edition of HAFF and is the only Indian film in this category.

An official statement from the university said that fifteen other entries have also been included under the category, from countries such as the United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA), Afghanistan, Madagascar and other countries. The film will compete for the grand prize, along with the student film prize.

The press release issued by the university stated that the film has been shot, directed and edited by an undergraduate student of the university, named Sharif Khan. Khan has even co-written and co-composed the music, the release further read. Gangaraju Saladi, a professor at Film and television management, was the co-producer of the film.

Project advisor, Monika Sawhney said: "The film highlights how individuals in which the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is diagnosed are subject to social apathy and institutional antipathy, besides facing the health and lifestyle challenges that come with the disorder. It is a powerful attempt to build awareness about Autism, dispel some of the prevalent misconceptions around it and draw attention to the institutional and economic discriminations faced by people on the spectrum and their caregivers".

The film is also available to watch on YouTube, the university officials stated.
