Free textbooks, tablets for Navodaya Vidyalaya students: Edu Ministry

NEW DELHI : The minister of education Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, during a meeting with the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, said that free textbooks will be offered for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya students for Classes 6 to 12. The minister also said that students will be provided with tablets from Class 9 onwards.

Pokhriyal was attending the 40th executive committee meeting held by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti which runs all the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas(JNVs). The meeting was also attended by the minister of state (Mos) for education Sanjay Dhotre.

The ministry also said that corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds will be mobilized to improve schools. CSR funds are those in which corporations that earn above a certain amount of profit are legally bound to spend two percent of their average net profit for developmental activities. It was also proposed to request Navodaya Vidyalaya alumni to ‘adopt’ schools.

Recruitment drive for JNVs: Education Ministry

The ministry of education also announced that a special recruitment drive will be initiated to bring in students from Jammu and Kashmir, Himalayan and north eastern regions of the country to JNVs.

The education ministry also announced a new transfer policy from next year and the revision of recruitment rules for engineering cadre.

The minister of state said that post COVID-19 precaution will continue in the JNVs and that aspects such as accessibility and quality of digital education should be looked at.
