IIT Bombay Admissions 2026: MTech, PhD applications from March 25; schedule, eligibility criteria

IIT Bombay will start 2026–27 PG, PhD admissions from March 25; shortlist in April, tests in May, semester to start from July 27
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced the admission schedule for its postgraduate and doctoral programmes for the 2026–27 academic session, along with detailed information for MTech aspirants.
According to the institute, the admission notification was released on March 20, 2026, and the application process will start from March 25, 2026. Interested candidates can apply without a late fee until April 10, while a short late application window will remain open for select programmes.
The list of shortlisted candidates for tests and interviews is expected to be released between April 21, 2026 and April 23, 2026. Depending on the department and programme, the selection process: comprising written tests and interviews, will be conducted in May in either online or offline mode.

IIT Bombay Admissions 2026: Key dates, process
Following the evaluation rounds, admission offers will be rolled out in phases starting from late May through early June. Additional rounds may continue until July, with spot admissions for a few MTech programmes scheduled towards the end of the month.
Candidates who receive admission offers will be required to complete orientation and registration formalities around July 22–23, 2026. The Autumn semester is scheduled to begin on July 27, 2026.
IIT Bombay MTech Admissions: Eligibility, selection criteria
As per the MTech brochure, applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements, typically 60% marks or a CPI of 6.0 for general category candidates, with relaxations applicable for reserved categories. Admissions are largely based on GATE scores, although some departments may also conduct written tests or interviews.

The institute offers MTech programmes across a wide range of disciplines, including core engineering fields like civil, mechanical, electrical, and computer science, as well as newer interdisciplinary areas.
Applicants must complete the online application and upload required documents such as academic transcripts and certificates. IIT Bombay also provides multiple admission categories, including Teaching Assistantship (TA), Research Assistantship (RA), and sponsored seats, each with its own set of criteria and benefits.
