NEW DELHI: In a horrifying incident, 22 students of Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Noida were “mercilessly’ beaten after a scuffle broke out between the MBBS students and security guards over smoking cigarettes in the hostel. The incident took place on Sunday evening.
Videos of the GIMS scuffle went viral on social media. The purported video clip of the clash showed some stick-wielding individuals smashing two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked outside the hostel, whose inmates can be heard hurling expletives.
Medical students were residing at a hostel in the state-run Gautam Buddha University complex in Greater Noida. GIMS has a separate hostel for boys, which is situated inside the campus of Gautam Buddha University. It is named after a famous writer of Hindi and Urdu literature Munshi Premchand.
Initially, 33 people were detained by police in the aftermath of the episode. The Noida police have lodged two FIRs – one on the basis of a complaint by the security guards' agency and the other by GIMS.

However, the security guards of GBU did not listen to anyone and thrashed GIMS students inside the hostel and damaged vehicles," the hospital said in a statement.
The FIR against the security personnel includes charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, assault, trespassing, intentional insult and criminal intimidation, a local police official said.
