Government ‘Unresponsive to genuine concerns’: Shashi Tharoor on NEET 2021

NEW DELHI: Amid the ongoing agitation regarding NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) 2021, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has accused the government for being “unresponsive to genuine concerns”. Tharoor said in a social media post that the government’s decision to conduct the NEET exam 2021 despite student’s request to reschedule the exam, shows it in a “poor light”.

“The NEET exams show our Govt in a poor light: unresponsiveness to genuine concerns; admit cards not delivered to aspirants in time; failure to provide centres in towns they reside, thus requiring unnecessary & risky travels. What a disgrace to treat our #Covid warriors like this!,” Shashi Tharoor said in a social media post.

On September 6, the Supreme Court had rejected a plea seeking the rescheduling of NEET 2021 to some other date. The NEET UG 2021 will now be held on the scheduled date, that is, September 12.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticised the government on the decision and asked for the postponement of NEET 2021 on social media. #JusticeforNEETaspirants campaign gathered steam on Twitter, thereafter.

In response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan called him a “pseudo expert” and that he has no understanding of important matters.

“RahulGandhi perceives himself to be an expert on everything without having an iota of knowledge. Overflowing vanity & misplaced sense of entitlement of a failed crown prince is no alibi to meddle into the schedule of examinations, give undue stress & make the students suffer,” Dharmendra Pradhan said in a social media post.

Education minister further commented: “Even the Hon’ble Supreme Court has not entertained the plea to reschedule the #NEET examination citing the deferment as being unfair to a large number of students. What makes RahulGandhi the ‘pseudo expert’ question the collective wisdom of the bench and actual experts?”

NEET UG 2021 will be held on September 12 and NEET PG 2021 on September 11.
