NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, has made a six months internship compulsory for its engineering students. The decision was taken in wake of the various complaints regarding discrepancies in the current internship format, according to the News18 report.
The university’s decision to make the six-month internship mandatory will affect over 30,000 final year engineering students, especially, the 12,000 students who are currently in the final year as they have to adhere to the new format, the report said.

This internship is to be done under the guidance of a mentor and will carry a weightage of 12 credit points. Students failing to complete it won’t be handed over their degree certificates.
According to various media reports, the Vice-Chancellor Navin Sheth said that there were complaints that students, instead of making projects bought them from the market.
The university in partnership with various engineering firms aims to develop a website to report students’ weekly progress from the company and the college.
“The GTU has also partnered with Gujarat Contractor’s Association (GCA) that has over 3,500 firms under its umbrella, for providing internships to the students,” as per the reports.
Though the internships are compulsory on papers, they have not been implemented so far.
