NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) took a stride in international collaboration by signing an agreement with Greece's Hellenic Open University (HOU). The virtual signing ceremony aimed at fostering mutual benefits through the exchange of pedagogical expertise, enhancing academic programmes, and exploring future joint initiatives, as stated by IGNOU in an official statement.
IGNOU's delegation, led by vice chancellor Nageshwar Rao, including pro-vice chancellors and university registrars, engaged in discussions with HOU representatives. Nageshwar Rao hailed the partnership as historic, marking IGNOU's first venture with a European university of HOU's stature. He anticipated that this agreement would evolve into a broader collaboration, highlighting its role in fostering greater cooperation in the future.
Shachi Shah, director of centre of excellence at IGNOU, provided an overview of the university's contributions, while JK Srivastava, director of international division at IGNOU, introduced the scope of the collaboration.
The president of HOU, Kalavrouziotis Ioannis, expressed optimism about the collaboration's potential to provide accessible higher education. He highlighted shared goals between the institutions.
IGNOU has also been setting international standards with its recent initiatives. The school of foreign languages at IGNOU hosted an international translation workshop recently, focusing on cross-cultural communication. IGNOU has also launched the Hindi-French dictionary and the Master of Arts (MA) Spanish language programme. These events followed last year's launch of the 'Maitree' translation portal, showcasing IGNOU's commitment to global education.
