IIM Ahmedabad establishes Mattu Centre for research in security pricing and corporate finance

IIMA's new centre will support research in asset pricing, corporate finance and governance
Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad has announced the establishment of a new Centre of Excellence, the Mattu Centre for Research in Security Pricing and Corporate Finance, with the objective of enhancing finance research in India. The centre will facilitate research in fields like asset pricing, corporate finance, corporate governance and financial economics, with a special focus on Indian capital markets.
The centre has been set up with philanthropic support from Ravi Mattu, former Managing Director and Global Head of Analytics at Pacific Investment Management Co. LLC and an IIM alumnus. The program aims to help tackle the challenges that are emerging in the financial space and to also be a source of contribution to management education, development of capital markets and evidence-based policy making.
One of the center's primary tasks will be to build financial databases and research instruments specific to India, which will aid in conducting quality empirical research. The move will also facilitate discussions with different points of view among researchers from across the country, industry experts, regulators and policymakers.
Concentrate on research and collaboration
The centre will provide an environment for strengthening research infrastructure and for researchers involved in Indian capital markets. It will organize seminars, conferences, workshops and other academic activities, highlighting the need for interaction between researchers, practitioners and policy makers.
The Governing Council, headed by Bharat Bhasker, Director IIMA with Joshy Jacob and Ellapuli Vasudevan as co-chairpersons, will be responsible for running the Mattu Centre. Ravi Mattu, the donor; R. Narayanaswamy (Retd.), former faculty member at IIM Bangalore; Vaidyanathan Venkateswaran, associate professor at the stern school of business, New
York university; and Rajan Raju, Director, Invespar Pte. Ltd.
Research in various finance fields
The centre will engage in research on asset pricing, investments, market microstructure, corporate finance and corporate governance, according to IIMA. The results will be instrumental in solving real-life challenges of businesses, investors, regulators and policy makers.
The Mattu Centre has been set up under the umbrella of the institute's fund-raising and philanthropic body, the IIMA Endowment Fund (IIMAEF). It was a further move towards establishing a sustainable research capacity, fostering innovation and making a meaningful difference through philanthropy.
