IIM Lucknow collaborates with NIDM on disaster management research

Signs agreement to strengthen disaster risk reduction, research
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) in Delhi. This MoU signed aims to strengthen collaboration in disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster financing, resilient infrastructure, capacity building, research, and academic development.
This collaborative initiative will integrate expertise from the fields of management education, disaster management, policy, finance, and research to develop practical and innovative solutions for disaster resilience in India.
The MoU was signed by Satyabhusan Dash, Dean of the Noida Campus, IIM Lucknow, and Vineet Banga, Joint Director at NIDM.
Other key officials who participated in the event included Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, Head of the MoU Division at IIM Lucknow, and its Executive Director, Madhup Vyas (IAS), as well as Navneet Kumar, Amir Ali Khan, and Senior Consultant Preeti Soni from NIDM.

At the event, Satyabhusan Dash said the partnership is intended to strengthen disaster resilience through joint research initiatives and knowledge exchange between the two institutions. He highlighted that the collaboration is expected to support better-informed policymaking for building a disaster-resilient country.
Under the MoU, both institutions will work on several key areas, including training and capacity-building programmes for government officials, policymakers, corporate leaders, and practitioners on disaster risk reduction and disaster financing.

They will organise joint conferences, seminars, and academic discussion forums focused on disaster management, climate resilience, and sustainable development. In addition, the institutions plan to develop joint academic programmes such as certificates, diplomas, executive education, postgraduate courses, and PhD programmes in related fields.
The partnership will further support collaborative research projects involving faculty, researchers, and students, along with workshops, seminars, and policy advocacy initiatives aimed at improving disaster preparedness and resilience.

The collaboration is aligned with the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015–2030), the Government of India’s Ten-Point Agenda on Disaster Risk Reduction and the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
The MoU signing took place during the inaugural session of a national-level training programme on disaster mitigation finance and resilient infrastructure, attended by senior government officials and disaster management practitioners from 23 states across India.
