IISER Pune to become Liberal Science University; Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates data science department
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of the data science department, inaugurated the new building.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune is set to become Liberal Science University, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced today on social media. The minister witnessed a presentation on the academic and research activities being undertaken by the institute today.

“Witnessed a presentation on the academic & research activities being undertaken by IISERPune with BoG, Sudhir Mehta Pune, Prof. Jayant Udgaonkar and other senior academics. Happy to learn that IISER Pune is working to become a research-centric 'Liberal Science University’,” Pradhan tweeted.

Pradhan suggested IISER Pune to also focus on developing quality audio-video learning content and explore ideas like, 'Alumni Connect' to engage the institute’s alumni for advancing quality education as well as for creating a vibrant & diverse knowledge pool.

“Encouraged IISER Pune to become a more green and net-zero carbon campus with in-house waste recycling and waste-to-energy units. IISER should also consider initiating new courses relevant to the current and future needs of society & humanity,” the education minister added.
Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone of the newly-established Department of Data Science at IISER Pune and also inaugurated the National Facility for Gene Function in Health & Disease building, according to the Ministry of Education.
