Students who exit after three years will get a BSc in Engineering degree instead of a BTech.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has introduced the option to exit after three years in BTech programme for those students who want to graduate without an engineering degree but with a BSc (Engineering) as per the New Education Policy 2020 guidelines.
As per the education ministry’s NEP 2020 guidelines, the UGC in its recommendations referred to an option where a student can either exit on the completion of three years after pursuing the bachelor of honours programme in major subjects as a graduate or complete the four-year programme to qualify as an honours graduate. Those who study further will get an honours degree or an 'honours with research'.

As per reports, as many as 15 IIT Bombay students have so far used the early exit option. The early exit option at IIT Bombay will also allow the students to participate in the institute placements, the report added.

Unlike state universities including many at West Bengal, the IIT Bombay council has agreed to provide the exit option only after its third year, and not at the every level. These students, according to reports, could be among those who could either be having trouble clearing the BTech programme or keen to try something else.
