IIT Bombay launches online PG diploma in computer science, artificial intelligence for working professionals

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has launched an e-Postgraduate diploma programme in Computer Science (CS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for working professionals and graduates. The programme is designed by IIT Bombay faculty, and combines computer science foundations with contemporary development in AI and Machine Learning (ML).

The engineering institute has launched the e-PG diploma programme along with the Great Learning platform as its EdTech partner, according to the official statement.

The course is designed for software developers and engineers, IT professionals and data scientists who have learnt computer science either during their undergraduate studies or on the job, as well as fresh graduates with basic computer science knowledge.

Curriculum for IIT Bombay's online PG diploma

Vinay J Ribeiro, e-PGD (CS and AI) faculty coordinator, department of CS and AI, IIT Bombay, said: “The programme will equip learners not just to use AI tools, but to understand Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at a foundational level. This deeper understanding will help them adapt, compete and excel in the increasingly AI-centric world we are entering.”

The curriculum includes “synchronous and asynchronous” online learning, along with in-person campus immersion.

“The ePG Diploma in CS & AI is designed for motivated, technically adept individuals looking to deepen their conceptual understanding of computing and AI,” the statement read.

The course is categorized into two baskets - computer science and artificial intelligence and machine learning. Topics in AI include generative AI, large language models, AI agents, RAG, MCP, reinforcement learning, computer vision, NLP and deep learning.

Computer science topics include algorithms and complexity, blockchain, web and software security, cryptography and network security, and big data system internals.

Notably, students should have to complete six courses, with at least two from each basket. They can complete their target in one year, and also have an option to complete it within three years.

Highlighting the importance of AI tools in software development roles, Mohan Lakhamraju, founder and CEO, Great Learning, said: “AI is becoming integral to software development and computing systems. Professionals need more than familiarity with AI tools; they need strong foundations in computer science and an understanding of how its principles support the design and deployment of reliable, scalable AI systems. The ePGD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence brings these areas together, helping learners develop the technical depth needed to pursue high-demand roles in AI.”

Candidates who will complete the course within the given time will receive IIT Bombay’s e-alumni status.
