IIT Guwahati rises to 344th rank in QS World University Rankings 2025

QS World University Rankings 2025: IIT Guwahati has jumped 20 places up with an overall score of 32.9 from last year’s ranking.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has secured the 344th position globally in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world university rankings 2025, advancing 20 places from last year’s ranking with an overall score of 32.9.
The QS World University Rankings 2025 show IIT Guwahati’s significant jump from the 601-650 range in 2014 to rank 344 in 2024, marking an ascent of 257 places. The institute’s strongest indicator is research citations per faculty, ranked 42 globally, followed by employer reputation at 295 and academic reputation at 480.
QS Rankings' parameters considered for IIT Guwahati include academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, employment outcomes, international research network, and sustainability.
For the 2025 edition, 5,663 institutions were evaluated, resulting in the ranking of 1,503 institutions. In India, 46 institutions were ranked this year. IIT Guwahati also has a presence in 18 different subject category rankings, highlighting its multidisciplinary focus and diversity.
Devendra Jalihal, director of IIT Guwahati, expressed his delight over this achievement, attributing it to the dedication and hard work of the institute’s faculty, students, and staff. "Our commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation continues to drive us forward. We are proud of this achievement and remain focused on further enhancing our global standing and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and technology," he stated. He also highlighted the need to address challenges faced in the internationalisation of Indian institutes for further improvement in global rankings.
