IIT Hyderabad, SVYRI announce fellowships for PhD in heritage science, technology

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has signed an agreement with Sri Visweswara Yoga Research Institute (SVYRI) to launch research fellowships. The applications into the fellowship will be open all-year, but will be processed only twice in a year.

To be eligible for the Mahayogini Rajyalakshmi Devi (MRD) Heritage Research fellowships for PhD in heritage science and technology, candidates are required to have a master's in technology (MTech), master's in engineering (ME), master's in science degree or allied areas or possess a bachelor's in technology along with a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score.

The research scholar under the MRD fellowships will be able to receive a fellowship of Rs 75,000 per month. In addition to this, the candidates will also be funded for travel to an international conference to present their results. The proposed research will be in any domains of science and technology, as applied to intangible or tangible Indic heritage, such as yoga, ayurveda, music, dance, language, arts, architecture or sculpture at the department of heritage science and technology (HST) at IITH.

IITH director, BS Murthy said: “Robust, empirically quantifiable research in the frontier areas of Heritage assets will create strong commercial interest in Indic resources such as ayurveda, and yoga. It is important to perform research of the highest quality and publish in well-regarded fora, and IITH will strive to create a benchmark in the area of Heritage Research,”

IITH, Head of HST department, Mohan Raghavan said: “From Yoga to Ayurveda, tourism, language, music, sports and archaeological sites are all extremely valuable and hold the key to building people’s livelihoods. It is very important to unlock the value of heritage assets through robust science and technology efforts,”
