IIT Kanpur cGanga, National Mission for Clean Ganga organise three-day 8th India Water Impact Summit

NEW DELHI: The Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga), IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) conducted three-day eighth India Water Impact Summit at Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

The summit was inaugurated by union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and Igor Papič, minister of science, technology and innovation, Slovenia. Various events were organised at the India Water Impact Summit under the theme 'Development vis-à-vis land, water and rivers. It aimed at bringing experts, government representatives and other stakeholders to address dynamic challenges and opportunities in India's water sector.

On the second day of the summit, India and Slovenia signed an agreement on space science technology and satellite usage for river basin management. The agreement was signed by Vinod Tare, founding head of cGanga IIT Kanpur, and Tomaž Rodič, director of the Slovenian Centre of Excellence for Space Sciences and Technologies. The agreement focuses on cooperation in space science technology and satellite usage for river basin management.

Topics such as agricultural waste management, lifestyle and economics, and the use of digital tools for effective river monitoring were also discussed on the second day.

Slovene minister for global cooperation

Addressing the inaugural session, Nitin Gadkari highlighted projects in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh which are focusing on utilising crop residues to reduce pollution in Delhi. Igor Papič emphasised on global cooperation for addressing water security and environmental protection.

On the third day of the summit, presentations on numerous new initiatives, including on ‘Internet of underwater thing:’ a revolutionary approach to underwater networks’ was presented.

IIT Kanpur officiating director S Ganesh said, “cGanga at IIT Kanpur has been undertaking rigorous initiatives to ensure responsible water management and conservation under the objectives of river science and basin Management. Our efforts demonstrate our commitment to environmental protection. The agreement with Slovenia is a significant step, and the summit’s success is a reflection of the collective efforts toward advancing water management and environmental conservation.”

Vinod Tare said, “The 8th India Water Impact Summit has not only nurtured significant partnerships but has also set the stage for innovative solutions.”
