IIT Kanpur's Class of 1980 donates Rs 4.2 crore to support initiatives

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur’s Class of 1980 has announced a donation of Rs 4.2 crore during their 45-year reunion to support various initiatives at the campus. The reunion programme was held from March 2 to 4. The event was attended by 63 alumni to reconnect and contribute to the growth of their alma mater.

According to the IIT Kanpur statement, the donation from the alumni will support initiatives at IIT Kanpur in contributing towards hall 3 in celebration of their Hall Day, improvement in facilities across the campus, a grant towards the girls' hostel, and creation of new Corpus Fund.

"The donation will also support the Pravir Dutt Excellence Award, the KS Gandhi and SK Gupta Research Excellence Award, Humanities-Technology Bridge: A tribute to Mahajan and Dhanagare, SK Gupta and KS Gandhi Undergraduate Excellence Award,"the IIT Kanpur statement said.

Reflecting on the reunion event, Manindra Agrawal the director of IIT Kanpur said: “In addition to technical education, IIT Kanpur is committed to shaping responsible citizens who serve as catalysts for change and development. The alumni from the Class of 1980 are thriving in their respective fields while remaining deeply connected to their roots. We are grateful for their generous contribution to the institute, which will provide significant momentum to various academic initiatives on campus."
