IIT Kanpur, Lohum tie for academic research and development

The partnership will sponsor R&D labs at IIT Kanpur, provide fellowship to selected PhD students to assist in their research, and support the IITK motorsports team.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur partnered with Lohum to work on advancing the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries. The aim of this partnership is to advance the lithium-ion battery testing technology and techniques so that it can be used for quality evaluation of battery raw materials. According to the official statement, this will lead to ensuring safety and longevity of batteries. The partnership will be led by Kanwar Singh Nalwa who is from Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering at IIT Kanpur.
Nalwa said: “The collaboration between Lohum Cleantech and IIT Kanpur is a significant step towards promoting sustainable energy and a circular economy in India. It also strengthens the ecosystem of industry-academia partnerships that the Government of India has been trying to foster.”

Commenting on the partnership between IIT Kanpur and Lohum, director of IIT, Abhay Karandikar said: This adds up to IIT Kanpur’s relentless efforts in creating an R&D ecosystem aligned more towards a sustainable future. The partnership also bears testimony to a flourishing academia-industry partnership in attaining shared goals.”
Further, Rajat Verma, CEO of Lohum Cleantech said: “The collaboration will help us develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the battery industry, which is critical to the growth of EVs in the country”.

Apart from this, Lohum has also agreed to sponsor R&D labs at IIT Kanpur, provide fellowship to selected PhD students to assist in their research, and support the IITK motorsports team.
Lohum Cleantech is the largest producer of sustainable energy transition materials in India.
IIT Kanpur was established on November 2, 1959 by an Act of Parliament.
