IIT Madras offers free STEM training to college faculty at new Teaching Learning Centre

IIT Madras TLC will provide residential capacity building programmes in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology from August 22
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) has launched a Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) for STEM training. The centre will provide free training in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology to college faculty engaged in teaching science courses.
The capacity building programme in Science, Technology , Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) will focus on teaching methodologies and “holistic faculty development” through practical lab sessions. The programme aims to support the development of an “inquiry-based” STEM curriculum in India.
The free STEM training programme at IITM will incorporate an interdisciplinary approach, skill development, research, innovation, global competitiveness and experiential learning, per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

IIT Madras STEM training schedule
The IIT Madras free courses at the Teaching Learning Centre will be delivered according to the following schedule.

IIT Madras TLC initiative
Candidates who are shortlisted for the TLC programmes at IIT Madras will be notified via email. The initiative is organised under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP). Participants will receive free residential accommodation. The Teaching Learning Centre has partnered with BodhBridge Education to offer the training programmes.
Speaking about the STEM training at IIT Madras, Edamana Prasad, chairman of the TLC, said, “The program is designed to elevate teaching effectiveness, enrich student learning experiences and cultivate an engaged and inspired academic environment. Its objectives include strengthening student performance, encouraging higher enrollment in STEM disciplines and advancing diversity and inclusion, all of which align with the Union Education Ministry’s commitment to ongoing enhancement and innovation within India’s education sector."
