IIT Roorkee Convocation 2025: 2,614 degrees awarded; female PhD graduates rise to 178

IIT Roorkee conferred 1,267 undergraduate, 847 postgraduate, and 500 doctoral degrees at its convocation, with five students receiving medals for academic and overall excellence.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee conducted its convocation 2025 ceremony on campus, awarding degrees to a total of 2,614 students, including 1,267 undergraduates, 847 postgraduates, and 500 doctoral candidates. The graduating class includes 2,012 male and 602 female students, reflecting 23% female representation.
Undergraduate degrees awarded included 1,094 Bachelor of Technology, 75 Integrated Master of Science, 53 Integrated Master of Technology, 36 Bachelor of Architecture, and 9 Bachelor of Science.
Postgraduate degrees comprised 536 Master of Technology, 159 Master of Science, 80 Master of Business Administration, 27 Executive MBA, 19 Master of Design (Industrial Design), 13 Master of Urban and Rural Planning, 12 Master of Architecture, and 1 Post Graduate Diploma in Drinking Water & Sanitation.
As per the institute, a total of 178 female scholars graduated this year, compared to 146 in 2024 and 57 in 2023. Doctoral degrees included 496 Doctor of Philosophy, 1 PhD Joint Degree, 2 PhD Dual Degree (MTech + PhD), and 1 Doctorate awarded for both Joint & Dual Degree (MTech + PhD) programmes.
IIT Roorkee Convocation 2025: Top performers recognised
The convocation also recognised students for their academic and overall performance across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Top performers were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals for excellence in their respective streams. The following students received medals in the table below.

IIT Roorkee: Research and innovation achievements
The institute also presented its annual report during the convocation ceremony , highlighting achievements in research, innovation, and academic programs. The institute states that it filed 146 patents, secured Rs 399 crore in research funding, and launched projects in quantum technology, clean energy and hydrogen, defence, resource management, and sustainability.
“A major recognition this year was IIT Roorkee being designated as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) by the Ministry of Mines, joining a select group of premier institutions tasked with developing technologies vital for India's clean energy, semiconductor, mobility, defence, and space sectors,” the institute said.
Teachers’ Day 2025 observed at IIT Roorkee
IIT Roorkee also marked Teachers’ Day 2025 during the convocation week, recognising faculty with Excellence in Teaching and Research Awards, Lifetime Teaching Achievement Award, Prof. Bal Krishna Outstanding Teacher Award, and the Ramkumar Prize for Outstanding Teaching & Research.
Faculty awardees included Sparsh Mittal, A Swaminathan, Jitin Singla, Kirtiraj K. Gaikwad, Kritika Kothari, Praveen Kumar, Ram Krishna Pandey, and Gopinath Packirisamy.
