IIT Roorkee will work towards the development of navigation channels by employing eco-friendly techniques on 17 locations along the Ganga NW-1. It conducted a morphological study of the Ganga river. The project is expected to prevent shifting of the deeper channel, siltation resulting in the formation of secondary channels, erosion of banks and other factors affecting the depth of flow in the main navigable channel,
“We feel a sense of pride and responsibility working for the development of the nation’s waterways”, said Z Ahmad, professor at IIT Roorkee.
