The International Baccalaureate (IB) has announced the results of its May 2026 examination session for the diploma programme (DP) and career-related programme (CP). A total of 209,607 students worldwide received their results, including 6,265 students from India.

The number of students in India receiving DP and CP results this year has gone up by 3% compared to last year. The average diploma programme score for Indian students in the May 2026 session stands at 32.78 points.

The IB congratulated students on reaching this milestone, saying that the two-year programmes help learners build curiosity, critical skills and an open-minded approach while encouraging them to make meaningful contributions to their communities. It also noted that this year's graduates join a global network of more than 2.9 million lifelong learners across 159 countries where the DP and CP are offered.

IB programmes continue to expand

Joe Lam, IB Regional Director for Asia Pacific, said, "This year's results reflect the extraordinary breadth of the IB community, from established programmes in Australia and Japan to rapidly growing systems in South Korea and India. What connects students is a shared experience of learning that asks them to question, create, and take responsibility for the world they are inheriting. Graduates enter the next stage of their lives not only with qualifications, but equipped with the habits of mind that their communities and economies need most."

The diploma programme is currently available in 192 IB world schools across India. The programme has an inquiry-based curriculum that promotes academic achievement, critical thinking, language development and personal growth while supporting global perspectives and ethical leadership. The organisation also referred to 11 comparative studies, which found that DP courses consistently meet and often exceed international benchmarks across several leading education systems.

The career-related programme is offered in 43 IB world schools across the country for students aged 16 to 19. It combines academic learning with career-focused education and aims to develop confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of purpose. Most students completed the usual assessment process during the May 2026 session, while those unable to sit examinations because of conflict in parts of the Middle East were assessed through the organisation's non-exam contingency measure.
